Our Journey

Visit Highworth’s Journey

The concept of a Visitor Centre to increase tourism to our town began as an idea many years ago. In 2018 the former Lloyds Bank building was up for grabs to lease, so a small team of dedicated community volunteers from Highworth Community Partnership Group started the process to get the project off the ground.

Investment from the local community and businesses, and funding sought from local charities, enabled the project to progress.

The hard work began in early July 2019 with local tradespeople being employed to refurbish the space and a few committed locals offering their assistance to paint and build flatpack units. Interior designer Claire Rendall gave free advice and ideas of how the inside space could flow and look.

So, it begins ...
making good the walls
creating a feature wall
fixing the floor
a fresh paint job
new carpet
lots of boxes!
the flat-pack crew sets to work
places for everything
nearly done ...
the Welcome Desk and Shop
the Museum space
sign up ... ready to go!

Whilst refurbishment was going on, the local Art Society, Camera Club and a host of other talented local crafts people were approached to see if they would like to be involved. We have such a wealth of talent in our town and we are grateful for their support in this venture.

Visit Highworth successfully opened its doors on the 21st September 2019 and is today staffed and managed by an amazing team of willing volunteers.
